Week 13
In what ways do you think the motto "Survival is Insufficient" fits for the Traveling Troupe? They perform A Midsummer's Night Dream, a play that it turns out Shakespeare wrote during the great plague in Europe. Are there other parallels you see between the play and the story?
In section two, the novel leaps ahead twenty years following the Georgian Flu. How has life changed for principal characters such as Kristen?
In chapter twelve, the prophet makes his first appearance following the performance. Discuss his character.
I think that the motto is very fitting. From what I can tell about this group, they are strong willed and are trying to make the most out of the cards and lives that they have been handed and they want others to do the same. By providing entertainment for others they are given a sense of purpose in this messed up world they live in and are trying to enjoy life instead of just surviving. There are definitely parallels and although I do not fully remember the play, there are love triangles and the group is close knit similar to the actors and the towns that they go perform in and they live separately which is similar in both the story and the play.
Life is completely different and has taken extremely major steps back. The internet is no longer a thing, screens, technology are gone and it's like living in the past like a little house on the prairie situation, which is interesting. Her life went from busy and full of technology and everything happening so fast and the world at their fingertips, to a world of nothing but death, suffering and nothing.
The prophet is creepy and yea creepy. He has created a cult and is the dictator over it. People feel as though they are trapped in his world. It made the Symphony feel so uncomfortable that they left that day. I picture him as tall, very tall, and slim with dark brown hair and kinda drags his feet when he walks. Just overall gave me the creeps and i am excited to see how his character develops
